Web design for
small business.

Custom websites for small businesses across New Zealand. One location, a few staff, and an owner who has to make the decision between jobs.

Who it is for

Small business.
Not a small job.

If you are the owner, the quote writer and the person who answers the phone, this is written for you.

  • One location, or a van. Trades, clinics, studios, shops and consultants. The customers are mostly nearby.
  • No marketing team. Nobody whose job is the website, and no wish to hire one.
  • A site that has to earn its place. Not a brochure. The thing a stranger reads before deciding whether to call you.

What ships as standard

All of it.
Never a line on the quote.

Every build leaves with this, whether you ask for it or not. None of it is an upgrade.

  • A title and description written per page. Not generated, not repeated. It is the sentence a person reads before deciding to click.
  • Structured data. So a search engine reads what your business is rather than guessing from the wording.
  • Sitemap, robots.txt and llms.txt. With AI crawlers decided deliberately, answer engines and training engines treated separately.
  • Pages that read without JavaScript. What a crawler sees is what a customer sees.
  • Image sizes, loading hints and alt text. On every picture, so the page does not jump while it loads.
  • Tap targets a thumb can hit. Because the phone version is the real one.
  • Security headers. Set at the server, checked after launch rather than assumed.
  • Your name, address and number identical everywhere. One spelling, one format. Contradictions are what make a search engine less certain about you.
  • Search Console and analytics connected. Before launch, in your account, so you can see what people search to find you.

The five things every local business site needs are set out in what every local business website needs.

What you own

The domain is in
your name. From the start.

Registered to your business, in your account, on your card. Not ours.

The finished site is yours. At handover you get a document listing the domain, where it is registered, every login, and what to do if you ever want to move to somebody else. If you work with another developer one day, that document is the only thing they need from us.

Hosting, care and support are agreed separately. Nothing continues by default and nothing recurring starts unless you ask for it.

How it is priced

Scope first.
Then the number.

A price with no scope behind it cannot be compared with anything.

What is included is written down before work starts, and that includes how many rounds of feedback the build covers. Changes after that are agreed with you in writing first. Never invoiced afterwards.

What moves the figure is the ground to cover: how many pages, whether you take bookings, and what the site you have now is starting from. We set that out in what a website costs in New Zealand.

What we will not promise

Rankings. Enquiries.
Traffic. Revenue.

Those turn on your market, your prices, your competitors and your reputation. A website does not control any of them, and anyone promising you a position is selling you something.

What we commit to is the work set out in the scope you agree to, built to a professional standard and tested across common devices and browsers. The same words are in our terms, because a page and an agreement should not say different things.

Where it starts

With the site
you already have.

The website audit reads your address the way a browser does, and hands back a named list of what is wrong with it.

If it turns out a fix is all it needs rather than a rebuild, we will say so.

Run your audit

Questions

Before you get in touch.

No. We are based in Christchurch and we build for businesses across Canterbury and the rest of New Zealand. Distance has never changed how a build is done.
Start with the audit. It reads the site you have and names what is wrong with it. If it needs fixing rather than replacing, we will say so, and that is the cheaper answer.
You do. The domain is registered in your business’s name from the start, in your account. The finished site is yours, and every login is written down and handed over.
Before any work has started, nothing is owed. Once work has started it is settled in proportion to the work actually done, agreed with you in writing before anything stops.
No. Hosting, care and support are separate and agreed individually. Nothing continues by default and nothing recurring starts unless you ask for it.
Ask every quote for a scope, not a number. We set out what to look for in choosing a web designer in New Zealand.
